July 9th was the Sidewinder 5K, 10K at Marion Bear Park.  This San Diego trail race was the second in our series following the Coyote 5K, 10K in June held at Tecolote Canyon.  Marion Bear Park is a beautiful park located just east of the I-5, south of the 52 and west of the 805.  The open space provided for a great event with 288 registrants.  All runners received a custom beer pint glass provided by Airdale Brewing Company and a custom technical shirt provided by Dirt Devil Racing.  The course was well marked with pink tape and red, white and blue chutes.  Digital chip timing was provided by Dirt Devil Racing’s new Jaguar system.  It was the first time the chip timing was used by us and it worked perfectly.

The 5K course was flat, fast and technical offering a little bit for everyone.  Brooke Roenicke from Ultima Hydration took first place female in the 5k with a time of 22:05.  Lucas Robish was the first place male crushing the 5K with time of 20:46.  For the rest of the results check out

The 10K was also flat, fast and technical offering up some jeep road, river rock and lots of single track.  Our very own Dirt Devil Celeste Arumbulo ran hard and took first place female with an impressive time of 45:01.  Celeste is in the lead for the Grand Slam Series prize money currently.  First place male was Jonathan Landis with an amazing time of 37:58.  For the rest of the 10K results check out

The finish line was a big hit this year offering runners icy sponges to cool off with and FLUID Recovery drink to satisfy their thirst.  After the race runners were invited to the Bay Hill Tavern located about 1 mile from the finish.  Once there Tony from Airdale Brewing poured them a free pint of Airdale Dark and Stormy to help their recovery efforts.  Runners were given the option of a all-you-can-eat buffet or simply ordering off the menu.  Ted, the owner of Bay Hill had all of his staff present to help make sure everything went smoothly, and it did.

The next race is one month away.  The Stairway to Heaven is August 14th and offers a flat and fast 5K or a long, hard and hilly 15k which includes the infamous Stairwway to Heaven (or at least to the top of South Fortuna Mountain).  For more information on the Stairway to Heaven check out

If you have not seen Mission Trails Park you should make sure to sign up for this race.  The park is a local trail treasure (as long as you like hills) and really showcases what Southern California has to offer in the desert region.  All runners will receive custom pint glasses from Manzanita Brewing Company and technical tank tops from Dirt Devil Racing.
